Deficit Ceiling: The Great Manufactured Political Crisis of 2011

Financial Armageddon. A fiscal crisis of biblical proportions. Seniors starving to death without their Social Security checks. Stock markets crashing around the world. And of course, from San Francisco’s favorite loon: the end of the world as we know it.

Pretty apocalyptic-sounding stuff, isn’t it? Guess what? It’s utter nonsense.

Yes folks, the Great Manufactured Political Crisis of 2011 is just that; MANUFACTURED. We’ll get back to that thought in a minute, but let’s begin with a bit of logic, shall we?

The very people who got us into this mess in the first place are now the very people who are telling us the sky is falling. Our disingenuous president is on TV every ten seconds reading dishonest nonsense from his teleprompter telling us the world is about to end.

It seems to me that if Lord Obama and his minions in Congress were truly concerned about “Armageddon,” seniors not getting their Social Security checks, and the end of the world as we know it, perhaps – just perhaps – they would have stopped spending like drunken sailors some time ago. Hell, they might have even gotten around to passing a budget sometime during the last 900 days.

Maybe they would have also been more receptive to serious deficit reductions and a balanced-budget amendment – as has been strongly recommended by Moody’s, Standard and Poors, and THE WORLD. The scary part, of course, is what if they actually really did believe Armageddon was on the way, but they decided it would be worth it – as long as it provided them an opportunity to score political points? (That whole Rahm Emanuel “never waste a good crisis” thing.

Here’s the dirty little secret: Obama and Congressional Democrats have known all along they would agree to an eleventh-hour deal. This is one of those rare times when Democrats must ultimately agree to a fiscal proposal that is to the right of their comfort zone. The genius of their strategy? They held out until the very end in an effort to demonstrate to the left that they had no other choice – the evil, intransigent Republicans made them do it.

Barack Obama and Congressional Democrats have played this manufactured crisis like a fiddle – and you too, if you bought their dog and pony show along the way. As is always the case with liberals, it’s all about “political lies,” which I define as:

Democrats saying things they know aren’t true for the sole purpose of patronizing the “less-than-informed” for political gain.

The Democrats controlled the message – they do every time.
