OBAMA TO ASK CONGRESS TO INCREASE DEBT LIMIT CEILING $1.2 TRILLION
Here we go again, America: Barack Obama’s national debt-ceiling credit card is about to reach its limit again, and this time – after requesting a $2 trillion increase last August – the drunken sailor is asking Congress to raise his spending limit by “only” $1.2 trillion.
Approval is expected without a challenge, given that Congress in in recess until mid-January and Obama’s request is in line with an earlier agreement to keep the federal government funded into 2013.
Under the deal struck in August during a showdown over the government’s debt limit, the cap will be automatically raised unless Congress votes to block the extension. After receiving the request, lawmakers have 15 days to vote on its approval, which is largely symbolic given that Lord Obama can veto it – and Congress would be unlikely to muster the two-thirds majority to override the veto.
Coincidentally, the infamous “Super Committee” failed last month to reach bipartisan agreement on $1.2 trillion in budget cuts – the same amount Obama now seeks from Congress. However, the committee’a co-chairs – Sen. Patty Murray, (D-Wash.), and Rep. Jeb Hensarling, (R-Tex.), did release this pathetic statement:
“Despite our inability to bridge the committee’s significant differences, we end this process united in our belief that the nation’s fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve.”
Wait a minute – back up the bus: these clowns ended their failed dog-and-pony show “united in their belief” that the nation’s fiscal crisis “must be addressed?” What – just not by them?
The national debt limit currently stands at $15.2 trillion and will increase to $16.4 trillion with the approval of Obama’s request.
Bend over, folks – it’s politics as usual – with no end in sight.
There’s just nothing like spending other people’s money, is there?
