I distinctly remember two facets of the 2008 presidential campaign: Barack Obama’s insistence that America had lost the respect and trust of the world under George Bush’s watch – and that if we would just play nice in the sandbox and behave less arrogantly, all would be well; and Hillary Clinton’s television commercial asking America who it wants in the White House when the inevitable crisis phone call comes at 3:00 in the morning.

That phone is about to ring, America. Happy with your choice?

Iran warned the U.S. (Lord Obama) today that the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Stennis, better not return to the Persian Gulf, “or else.” (It will interesting to see if this threat is as hollow as those made by Captain Teleprompter in reverse.)

“We recommend to the American warship that passed through the Strait of Hormuz and went to [the] Gulf of Oman not to return to the Persian Gulf,” Iranian General Ataollah Salehi was quoted as saying, by Iran’s state news agency, IRNA.

So it begins.

Salehi’s warning for the U.S. aircraft carrier not only seemed aimed at further depicting the strait (and the Persian Gulf) as under Iran’s domination, but also as a test of the merit (cojones) of one Barack Hussein Obama. Incidentally, this is the same Barack Hussein Obama that the Hitler-wannabe – Ahmadinejad – ridiculed after the Boy King begged (pretty please with sugar) for the return of the the downed U.S. drone. (Obama’s “toy plane,” according to little Hitler.)

The question – of course – is who will blink first? Hard to say. Ahmadinejad and the crazy mullahs are irratonal theocrats; Obama is a cautious indecisive bureaucrat.

Allah vs. “the state.” Hmm. I guess the tie-breaker will come down to “politics,” won’t it?

Iran’s latest temper tantrum comes in response to U.S. preparations to impose tough new sanctions that would ban dealings with Iran’s Central Bank – which would deeply hurt Iran’s oil exports, since most countries use the bank to conduct purchases of Iranian crude. Iran relies heavily on oil revenues – approximately 80% of its budget – meaning a cut-off would be devastating to its already weakening economy.

Push is about to come to shove; in this Bugs Bunny vs. Yosemite Sam standoff, who will win? If the cartoons taught us anything, it will be Bugs.

The real question is: Which character is Barack Obama?

Um, that’s NOT all, folks!
