PLANS TO GIVE COMMERCE DEPARTMENT AUTHORITY OVER ‘CYBER-SECURITY’ EFFORT
Let’s begin today’s mental gymnastics with a disclaimer: Regular readers of Rat & Rebel Are Right are fully aware that the Rat is fond of using unique images in his articles – many of which he finds humorous as they relate to the topic at hand. Therefore, loons: Please stop giving me crap about the pictures. If you have substantive commentary to add, bring it; otherwise, give it a rest.
In an article published yesterday – “Big Brother Obama is Monitoring Facebook, Twitter, Others ” – I wrote about the Boy King’s efforts to monitor internet goings-on; from Facebook to the Drudge Report, Dear Leader is keeping tabs on what we’re up to. (He also wants us to help him keep tabs on what our neighbors are up to, as well.)
It gets worse. Lord Obama is now planning to give authority to the U.S. Commerce Department – citing a “cyber-security effort” – which would require Internet ID’s for all Americans. (Memo to the loon who made an idiot of himself yesterday by accusing me of “making up” the article – obviously without bothering to follow the link I included to the actual DHS document: I highly recommend that you do your research before you get you panties in a knot this time.)
“It’s ‘the absolute perfect spot in the U.S. government’ to centralize efforts toward creating an ‘identity ecosystem’ for the Internet, said White House Cybersecurity Coordinator Howard Schmidt.
Don’t you just love liberal-speak? “Identiy ecosystem”? Seriously? Oh, and Howard? Conservatives get really nervous whenever Socialists talk about “centralizing” anything. Verstehen Sie?
The Regime is currently drafting what it’s calling the National Strategy for Trusted Identities in Cyberspace, which will be released by Lord Obama himself in the next few months, according to Commerce Secretary Gary Locke.
“We are not talking about a national ID card,” Locke said in California this week: “We are not talking about a government-controlled system. What we are talking about is enhancing online security and privacy, and reducing and perhaps even eliminating the need to memorize a dozen passwords, through creation and use of more trusted digital identities.”
“More trusted digital identities”? Is it just me, or do you trust your own passwords more than you trust an Obama Regime edict that requires every American to have a national internet ID?
Details about the “trusted identity” project are remarkably scarce. Rumors abound regarding a possible forthcoming smart card or digital certificate, either of which could be used to prove that online users are who they say they are. And, what else could they be used “to prove,” Dear Leader?
Schmidt claimed that “anonymity and pseudonymity” will remain “possible” on the Internet. “There’s no chance that a centralized database will emerge; we need the private sector to lead the implementation of this,” he said.
Excuse our cynicism, Howard: The Regime has already created AttackWatch.com – not to mention fake profiles on Facebook, what the hell do you expect?
No need to panic, America. On the other hand, it’s always wise to connect the dots, isn’t it?
Remember those chips they talked about surgically implanting in all of us?
