The Disingenuous Sophistry Of A Smoke And Mirrors President

Barack Hussein Obama came to the presidency with such grand promises. Those promises were less about what he said as a candidate on the campaign trail – and more about what a majority of Americans felt in their hearts and souls. It was time for change.

Democrats – and enough Independents alike – elected to the presidency this man from Illinois because of a sense that – as was the case 48 years earlier when John F. Kennedy ushered in a new generation – America was in need of generational transformation. Transformation that was less about politics, and more about real change. And real hope.

Here we are – four years later. “Hope and change” has been tossed into Ronald Reagan’s dustbin of history as little more than an empty campaign slogan. The politics of division have been foisted upon America – with a vengeance that few good Americans saw coming.

Gone are the promises of “the most ethical and transparent administration in history” – replaced by off-schedule visits to the White House by union thugs and wealthy campaign donors, administration pressure on the Energy Department to approve ill-advised taxpayer-backed loan guarantees for political purposes, and a disturbing pattern of circumvention of the U.S. Congress through the utilization of executive actions and presidential edicts.

We see the divisive politics of class warfare, the use of inflammatory code words like “economic justice” and “restoring fairness to the economy”, the disingenuousness of “Obamalogic” in the denial of the Keystone XL Pipeline, and a smoke-and-mirror assault on the U.S. Constitution under the guise of forcing religious institutions to fund – against their faith and moral values – contraception and abortion for their employees.

While many of us have seen through the class warfare rhetoric of the community organizer from Chicago from the beginning, far too many of us are still – inexplicably – bamboozled by the sophistry of Barack Obama. Think about it:

This is a president who spoke in Tucson – following the Giffords shooting, of “a time when our discourse has become so sharply polarized – at a time when we are far too eager to lay the blame for all that ails the world at the feet of those who think differently than we do.” He said “it’s important for us to pause for a moment and make sure that we are talking with each other in a way that heals, not a way that wounds.”

And then? In a radio interview on Univision, Obama called on Latinos to “punish our enemies.” The millions of Americans who support comprehensive immigration reform are defined by the President of the United States as “our enemies”? Notice his use of the word “our.” Not “your.” “OUR.” This small man identified himself with the very ugly division that spoken against in Tucson -but was now trying to foment for political gain. It’s “us against them,” Latinos; “they” are our enemies who must be punished.

And late last week – in the middle of a building firestorm, as a growing number of Americans rose up in opposition as they saw through Obama’s attempt to frame his contraception mandate as a “women’s healthcare” issue and correctly identified it as a direct attack on the Constitution of the United States, the president blinked – or so it seemed to some.

In reality? More smoke and mirrors, America. The sock puppets of the Obama Media Group dutifully began to report that their president’s “accommodation to religious organizations” would now “force insurance companies to pay” for contraception and abortion services directly. Really? You’re messin’ with us, right?

When has a business ever paid for anything without passing that cost on to its customers? Increased taxes? Passed on to customers. Increased labor costs? Passed on to customers. Increased cost of materials? Passed on to customers. A disingenuous president’s claim that insurance companies will pay for contraception and abortion? Passed on as premium increases to the religion organizations to whom Mr. Obama offered his false “accommodation.”

Too many good Americans are still being played by this disingenuous sophist – at their own peril.

Wake up, America – at least by November, 6th – okay? Please?

  1. 20-20 hindsight, so much easier than 4-sight.

    • Seriously?

I’m constantly amazed by people who say, “I voted for Obama, but if I had know then what I know now, I wouldn’t have.” The guy has done EXACTLY what he said he would do throughout the 2008 campaign.

What may be “20-20 hindsight” to some, out of failure (or refusal) to clearly understand what the community organizer intended to do should he be elected, was FORESIGHT to those of us who PAID ATTENTION to, and understood – with no uncertainty – his Socialist agenda.

Denial is unbecoming – and why is it that you never have a rebuttal to my responses to your predictable drive-by comments?

Typical liberal behavior, you know; all hat, no cows.

  2. As a professor of rhetoric for 40 years, I say you are spot on! One only needs to listen to know Obama says nothing of substance. He talks to make you FEEL not think!
