Dear PETA: No, We Are Not Going Vegan In Protest Of BLM Killing Bundy’s Cattle

Free of the BLM meanies

In what has to be the dumbest response yet to the entire Bundy ranch ordeal:

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) said those upset with the mistreatment of Cliven Bundy’s cattle by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) should become vegans.

“These animals shouldn’t be killed either by the government, or by the rancher who plans to send the cows off to slaughter,” the animal rights group said in a statement Thursday. “The best thing anyone can do to stop the suffering of animals is to go vegan.”  SOURCE Free Beacon

Uh, no.

Going vegan is, of course, PETA’s go to response any time animals are mistreated, but in this case, the rounded up cattle were very much mistreated by the Bureau of Land Management:

However, a BLM spokesperson confirmed last week that two bulls were shot during the roundup because they posed a “safety hazard,” according to the Las Vegas Review Journal.

Ammon Bundy said one bull appeared to have been shot in the back of the head from a helicopter. The family posted a photo on its blog Saturday of a dead bull being dug up from the ground, of what they said was a “mass grave” made by the BLM for cattle that were killed or died from dehydration during the impoundment.

Separating bulls from cows is a no-brainer.  I’m a city girl and even I know that.  But cattle dying of dehydration or being run to death?  That’s squarely on the shoulders of the BLM and should be considered destruction of private property, regardless of Cliven Bundy’s trangressions real or imagined, and it is unacceptable.  What Bundy does with the cattle is up to him.  And slaughter feeds a whole lot of people very nutritious food.  So, going vegan is not an option that patriotic protesters are going to take seriously.

Going vegan is not going to save cattle, horses or any other animal if the BLM continues to round up herds and mistreat them.

Try again.
